The Junior Monumental Milers Program

The Junior Monumental Milers Program kicked off its third year on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Northeast Washington, D.C. Over 500 kids attended the kick off and approximately 10,000 kids, ages 8-13, are expected to participate in the program this year.
The day consisted of fun filled fitness stations and motivational speeches by Robert Sweeney of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, J.Scott Wilfong of SunTrust Bank, representatives from the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, Alesha Renee of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and Wisdom Martin of WTTG-FOX5. Enterprise Rent-A-Car was also on hand to ensure that the program kickoff was a success.

About JuMMP
JuMMP is an easy activation program created for the purpose of promoting physical fitness and goal setting. The 23-week run/walk program challenges students in ages 8-13, to get off the couch and into their sneakers and run or walk 26.2 miles by March 19, 2010.
Students have the option of registering online or at their local D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation Center. The JuMMP Runner's Log is featured on this site and can be easily printed out. The program culminates on March 19, 2010 where youth will participate in a "Kids Mini Marathon and Field Day" on the grounds of RFK Stadium where shirts, medals, and prizes will be awarded.
This year's JuMMP program has partnered with D.C. Parks and Recreation, D.C. Public Schools, Metropolitan Washington YMCA clubs, and FitArlington creating unlimited opportunities for students to run or walk their miles.
- Students can run or walk their miles at their local recreation center whenever they can, after school or on the weekend. Either indoors or outdoors (weather permitting)
- Students will report their mileage to JuMMP staff who will document it in the participant's Running Log.
