Qualifying
Standards
- What you need to
know to be on the starting line
In order to register for the SunTrust
National Marathon and Half Marathon, you will need
to have completed a race previously to qualify for
entry, much like the Boston Marathon (see Qualifying
Standards below for more information).
There are a number of different distance
races which can serve as your qualifying standard.
For the full marathon, you can register if you have
run a 10-k in 1 hour and 5 minutes or less, a marathon
in 5 hours or less, or any distance in between. For
the half-marathon, we accept all the same standards
as the full marathon or alternatively you can qualify
if you have run a 5k in 31 minutes or less or an
8k in 52 minutes or less.
If you haven’t raced recently,
we accept qualifying times for the 2009 SunTrust
National Marathon
& Half Marathon from as far back as January 1st,
2003. So even if you have been injured, or just
have not raced lately, we will help you get to the
starting line.
In order to verify your submitted time,
we ask that you choose a race which publishes their
results, either online or in-print. It can be a half
marathon in Arizona, a 10k in Georgia, or a ten-miler
right here in the District. We will even take running
splits from a duathlon or triathlon.
If you have yet to obtain a qualifying
time, visit www.runwashington.com for
the Greater Washington region's list of races. If
you live outside the region go to www.runningnetwork.com/eventcalendar.html.
Thank you and good luck in your training!
